Photostability '99 has received generous support from Applied Analytical Industries, Inc.
and from the Center for Photobiology at Argus, Inc.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Photostability '99 will be joining the American Society for Photobiology (ASP) Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. The PPS99 seminars and ASP sessions, including platform sessions and poster presentations, are open to all registered participants of the ASP meeting.

In addition, there will be a two part PPS99 Course, "Principles of Pharmaceutical Photostability Testing" on Wednesday, July 14, 1999 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon and 2:30 - 5:30 pm during the ASP Annual meeting. Separate registration is required for the Course.

The co-organizers for the PP99 sessions are Don Forbes (Argus Research Laboratories) and Joseph Piechocki (FDA; CDER) and Steve Baertschi (Eli Lilly and Company). A preliminary program schedule and topic outline for this Course is found below.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
The organizers of Photostability '99 invite all interested persons to submit abstracts for a special Photostability Poster Session according to the procedures outlined under Abstract Information and the abstract form (available from the ASP Office). (Note: Abstracts for this session do not require an ASP member's signature). Abstract Deadline: February 22, 1999.

In addition, titles for "Works-in-Progress" posters may be submitted any time prior to June 30, 1999. Check the appropriate box on Works-in-Progress form.

FOCUS
The primary focus of this meeting will be on interpreting and applying the ICH guideline on pharmaceutical photostability, with particular emphasis on methodologic options and validation. A discussion of photostability issues, including many that have arisen since the document became official, will be presented by experts in this field. Also featured will be presentations related to the development of new, more reasonably priced spectroradiometers that offer solutions to several of the associated problems.

This meeting has been scheduled in conjunction with that of the ASP in order to gain the benefits from consideration of mutually recognized concerns. Examples of such concerns include light source and measurement technology and documentation, comparisons between in vitro and in vivo photochemistry, and applications of sunscreens for photoprotection and stabilization of photolabile drug substances.
