American Society for Photobiology

  Lux et Vita since 1972

The ASP promotes research in photobiology, integration of different photobiology disciplines, dissemination of photobiology knowledge, and provides information on photobiological aspects of national and international issues.

What is Photobiology?

Photobiology is the biological study of the interactions of light with living organisms.

Photobiologists may specialize in the study of photosynthesis, vision, circadian rhythms, bioluminescence, ultraviolet radiation effects, photodynamic therapy, and other fields. The five divisions of the American Society for Photobiology (ASP) reflect the diversity and inter-disciplinary nature of photobiology.

ASP Divisions
1. Photochemistry, Photophysics and Phototechnology
2. Photosensory and Circadian Biology
3. Photosynthesis, Bio- and Chemiluminescence
4. Photomedicine
5. Environmental Photobiology and UV Effects
